National Library of Medicine Honors Jean Baker Miller in Exhibit Celebrating Women in Medicine

Jean Baker Miller, M.D., will be honored as part of an exhibit at the National Library of Medicine at the National Institutes of Health, opening October 2003, entitled Changing the Face of Medicine: Celebrating America’s Women Physicians. The exhibit, which will open to the public on October 14, 2003 and run through April 2, 2004, celebrates the contributions to and achievements of women in medicine and public health since 1850. Director of the Jean Baker Miller Training Institute at Wellesley College, Jean Baker Miller, M.D. is the author of Toward a New Psychology of Women, a groundbreaking book in the field of women’s mental health. She was the first director of the Stone Center as well as a professor of Psychology at Wellesley College, and has held positions at Harvard Medical School, Boston University School of Medicine, and Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Other awards and achievements include Woman of the Year in Health and Medicine from the National Organization of Women Massachusetts Chapter, 1982 and Massachusetts Psychological Association Allied Professional Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Advancement of Psychology, 1982.

Founded in 1995 by Jean Baker Miller, M.D. and scholars from the Stone Center, part of the Wellesley Centers for Women at Wellesley College, the Jean Baker Miller Training Institute (JBMTI) is dedicated to the Relational-Cultural Theory of psychological development.
