This project will provide systematic data on court cases involving domestic violence in Massachusetts.  Since Massachusetts courts collect no specific data on family proceedings involving domestic violence, our goal is to obtain a systemic “snapshot” in time of the volume and types of cases of divorce and child custody proceedings involving domestic violence in selected Massachusetts courts over the course of a week. With the aid of an expert group of advisors, we will collect these data as well as information on the experiences of court personnel in conducting such proceedings. This information will be compiled into a final report and will be presented in statewide forums.
