Empty theater seats and stageFollowing the release of a WCW study on the low level of women leaders in theater, the BOLD Theater Women's Leadership Circle was created. The study found that women held only 20 percent of artistic director positions at non-profit residential theaters in the U.S. and pointed to a glass ceiling as the main reason why. The BOLD Circle addresses this by creating a network of women artistic directors in professional theaters across the country and empowering them to address the issues that prevent women from advancing in theater leadership.

WP Theater (formerly Women's Project Theater) is one of five winners theaters that received a $250,000 grant to work toward the BOLD Circle mission. According to BroadwayWorld, "WP Theater is using the grant in part to elevate two extraordinary artistic leaders and WP Lab alums to senior positions on its artistic staff with the hiring of Tamilla Woodard as Associate Artistic Director, and Rachel Karpf as Artistic Producer."
