Op-Ed: Stop Pretending Sexual Assault Can't Happen in Your School
Education Week, October 4, 2018
By Nan Stein and Bruce Taylor
Nan Stein, Ed.D., senior research scientist at WCW, and her colleague Bruce Taylor of University of Chicago offer a research-based case for schools to acknowledge the fact that sexual assault happens at school. They write, " As researchers, we know that there is a high prevalence of sexual assault among teens today and that schools are not implementing effective strategies to address this kind of violence." Stein and Taylor offer three steps that educators can take to address sexual violence and harassment among teenagers -- implement evidence-based effective interventions; implement schoolwide interventions; and conduct staff training.
