Invisible Leaders and Creating Support for the Parent Artist: A Conversation on Research, Visibility, and Inclusion

I Ceder photo 1Ineke Ceder, a research associate at WCW, sat down with Catherine Mueller, a parent-artist working in the performing arts field, to discuss a WCW research study by Ceder and WCW's Sumru Erkut, Ph.D., that identified barriers to leadership for women in nonprofit theater.

While interviewing subjects for the study, Erkut and Ceder discovered a stigma against even talking about parenthood within the theater industry. In this conversation, Ceder and Mueller discuss why that needs to change and why it is necessary to further study parent-artists in order to develop best practices and action plans that would lead to more inclusive practices and sustainable lifestyles for theater artists.
