Laura Pappano, writer-in-residence at the Wellesley Centers for Women, wrote an article for On The Issues Magazine about women’s appearances in sports. Female athletes are often sexualized, whether it’s a swimsuit edition of Sports Illustrated or putting on make-up before a game. Some believe that women who look great should show it off, but others disagree. Pappano offers three reasons why female athletes being sexualized is still a controversial issue, and how to “think fresh” about the subject.
