In this article, Paul C. Gorski talks about how over the years he has challenged himself and other white people to “think critically about the upper end of the racial power hierarchy in the U.S.” He has attended dialogues and workshops on the issue, and cites Peggy McIntosh, Ph.D., and her essay, “White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack.” He notes that McIntosh did not invent the “white privilege” concept, but she brought the term into the “mainstream ‘diversity’ lexicon,” and discusses how that has affected him and others.
