Linda M. Williams, Ph.D.
In 1996 Linda Williams joined the Wellesley Centers for Women (WCW) as director of research for the Stone Center. Until her departure in the fall of 2005, she continued her examination of resilience of women, children, and families. She conducted research designed to understand and prevent the negative consequences of violence against women and children and collaborate on international research and action projects.
Linda Williams has directed research on violence for more than three decades. Her work in the area of intimate partner violence, child abuse, and sexual violence has resulted in numerous publications and papers. She has authored and edited several books and monographs including: Partner Violence: A Comprehensive Review of 20 Years of Research (1998), Trauma and Memory (1998), Nursery Crimes: Sexual Abuse in Day Care (1988), A 10 Year Follow-up of Sex Offender Recidivism (1980), The Aftermath of Rape (1979) and Victims of Rape (1977). She has published and presented dozens of articles on violence against women and children. She served on the National Research Council Panel on Violence Against Women and as co-director of the National Violence Against Women Prevention Research Center.
Dr. Williams has directed research on violence prevention, violence against women, family violence, sex offenders, and the long-term consequences and memories of child abuse. She has been principal investigator on 11 U.S. federally funded research projects and project director of three additional studies. She has directed research funded by the National Center on Child Abuse and Neglect, the National Institute of Mental Health, the U.S. Justice Department, and private foundations.
