Relational Mindfulness Workshop Set for March JBMTI seminar kicks off new season
Mindfulness, as a factor in psychological healing, is currently
receiving considerable attention. As recent neuroscience studies have
shown, mindfulness practices have a positive impact on brain
functioning and can be particularly effective when treating depression
and anxiety. The Relational Mindfulness Workshop, presented by the Jean Baker Miller Training Institute (JBMTI) at the Wellesley Centers for Women, is slated for March 27, 2010 in Wellesley, MA. Participants will explore how mindfulness, as it is
evolving from Buddhist psychology, can contribute to
Relational-Cultural Theory (RCT) and the practice of psychotherapy.
This program provides five (5) continuing education credits for psychologists; approval of credits for licensed mental health counselors, marriage and
family therapists, and social workers is pending. Please call
781-283-3800 to confirm or visit the JBMTI website for full details, including registration.

Moving Educational Equity & Diversity Forward

Now in its 24th years, the National SEED Project on Inclusive Curriculum (Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity) at the Wellesley Centers for Women prepares educators to lead year-long monthly seminars in their own schools. Seminar participants explore making curricula, teaching methods, and school climates more multicultural, gender-fair, and international. Pictured above are participants and staff of the 2008 New SEED Leaders' Workshop, including co-directors Peggy McIntosh, Ph.D., WCW associate director and senior research
scientist; Brenda Flyswithhawks, Ph.D., psychology instructor at Santa Rosa Junior College;
and Emily Style, M.A., an English teacher in New Jersey. This staff-development equity project works with educators from public and private schools throughout the U.S. and in
English-speaking international schools. Parents, administrators, and college teachers have also led the seminars.
The 2010 training for new SEED seminar leaders will be held July 8-15 in San Anselmo, CA. Applications are now being accepted. Extensive information about the SEED New Leaders' Workshop is available online at: www.wcwonline.org/seed.

Lunchtime Seminar: Ticket Office Sexism: The Gender Gap in Pricing for NCAA Division I Basketball
Thursday, March 4, 2010, Wellesley, MA; 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. -- Presenters: Laura Pappano and Allison Tracy, Ph.D. Tickets to college sports - and men and women's NCAA Division I
basketball in particular - may appear on the surface to be no different
from tickets members of the public may buy to attend professional
sporting events. In fact, however, ticket prices are not part of a free
market, but reflect internal decisions by institutions about the
relative value of men's and women's play. Laura Pappano and Allison
Tracy will discuss the results of their study of ticket prices at 292
Division I institutions for the 2008-2009 season and the implications
of disparities in ticket prices between men's and women's events during this lunchtime seminar at WCW's Cheever House.
Several WCW Lunchtime Seminars are audio recorded and the files are posted online. Listen to past presentations.
