New Report Summarizes DC Symposium Proceedings
The report on Achieving Equity for Women: Policy Alternatives for the New Administration, the policy-research conference convened by the Wellesley Centers for Women and the Institute for Women's Policy Research last spring in Washington, DC, is now available online and in hard copy.
The symposium highlighted four policy areas in which public policy can work to improve the status of women in the United States: women and economic recovery; retirement, Social Security and aging; quality early care and education; and women and health care reform. The symposium also featured a luncheon keynote address from Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis, as well as an opening keynote from Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut; a closing keynote from Tina Tchen, Deputy Assistant to the President of the United States and Executive Director of the White House Council on Women and Girls; and a reception keynote from Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney of New York.
Video recordings of the proceedings can be viewed online at www.wcwonline.org/videoarchive. Email WCW to request a hard copy of the report.

Recent Publications Highlight WCW's Diverse Work RCT, gender equity in sports, and human rights issues addressed
Publications authored and edited by scholars at the Wellesley Centers for Women bring the scholars' expertise not just to their professional communities, but to the general public as well. This year, three new publications include:
Relational-Cultural Therapy (American Psychological Association; 2009)
In this book, Judy Jordan, Ph.D. explores
the history, theory, and practice of this relationship-centered,
culturally oriented form of therapy. Relational-cultural therapy is built on
the premise that, throughout the lifespan, human beings grow through
and toward connection, and that we need connections to flourish, even
to stay alive.
Ticket Office Sexism: The Gender Gap in Pricing for NCAA Division I Basketball (Wellesley Centers for Women; 2009)
In this paper, Laura Pappano and Allison Tracy, Ph.D. show significant gender gaps at every pricing and seating level from their review of men's and women's Division I college basketball entry fees charged by 292 institutions during the 2008-2009 season, with colleges charging premium for male play.
Disability Rights, Gender, and Development: A Resource Tool for Action - Executive Summary (Wellesley Centers for Women, Secretariat for the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs/United Nations, and the United Nations Population Fund; 2009)
This resource tool authored by Rangita de Silva-de Alwis, SJD provides
valuable insights on the theory and practice of human rights-based approaches to
development and it contributes to the body of knowledge by designing innovative
approaches to the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in gender- and child-sensitive
development activities.
