$2.1M Awarded to NIOST at WCW Grant stands by its project name: Afterschool Matters!
The Wellesley Centers for Women (WCW) is pleased to announce that the Robert Bowne Foundation is awarding more than $2.1 million over five years to the Centers' National Institute on Out-of-School Time (NIOST) for the National Afterschool Matters Initiative which will promote research and professional development for the out-of-school time field.
"The Wellesley Centers for Women is committed to making the world a better place for women and their families through our research and action programs," says Susan McGee Bailey, Ph.D., WCW executive director. "NIOST's careful evaluation programs, comprehensive trainings, and advocacy for professional standards are examples of how we do this. Expanding the Afterschool Matters Initiative through NIOST advances both the field of out-of-school time and our organizational mission."
The primary objective of this award is to ensure the continuation of the well established Afterschool Matters Initiative which includes a Practitioner Fellowship Program; the production of the Afterschool Matters publications; the Edmund A. Stanley, Jr. Research Grantee program; and Research Roundtables as forums for connecting research and practice.

WCW Seeking Economist
The Wellesley Centers for Women (WCW) has begun a search for a
full-time economist who has expertise researching issues related to
gender.
"Bringing
an economist to WCW will enable us to more closely examine women's
economic contributions, needs, and value in our local, national, and
global communities," says Susan McGee Bailey,
Ph.D., WCW executive director. "Such research is essential to ensure
the development of comprehensive economic and social policies that
result in a better world for women, children, and their families. We
believe that an economist will both deepen our current work and
initiate important new research at the Centers."
