Chris Flett, an entrepreneur who presents a seminar for women in business entitled “What Women Aren’t Told,” argues that playing traditional female roles in the workplace contributes to men’s dismissal of women. A new study by the Wellesley Centers for Women shows, however, that the number of women present, rather than the behavior of women, is what creates an environment in which women’s voices are heard. Vicki Kramer conducted the study for WCW and said, “When there’s one woman on a board often they don’t hear her contributions because they’re so busy talking over her that they don’t listen. And so what we found is that it takes another woman or another two women in the boardroom to make sure that each woman is heard.”
