In girls' nature to nurture?
The Philadelphia Inquirer In Heller's article, Deborah Tolman responds to Michael Gurian's new book, The Wonder of Girls, where this self-taught author proposes girls' behavior lies in biology, rather than culture or society. "There are multiple, even competing forms of feminism. His approach is colossally simplistic and a real misrepresentation of feminist positions. And why would we see such variations in self-esteem if there's a biological determinant? This is a palliative book. It's saying 'Look, there's nothing you can do. You're hard wired.' That's not about making society a better place for women and for men." |
