Competitive edge: Athletics helped prepare women for battles of business world

This article investigates the competitive edge women gain from playing sports in school. Sumru Erkut, associate director of the Center for Research on Women and co-director of the Sports As Protective Of Girls' High-Risk Sexual Behavior project, states, "Twenty years ago, when you asked a boy, 'What are you playing?' you could never ask that question of a girl.... Today I'll ask that question of a 5-year-old, and I'll get an answer."
