More than 75% of 2004 Washington County valedictorians are female
Observer-Reporter: Washington Even though valedictorians of the class of 2004 in Washington County are predominantly girls, and even though girls have both achieved top academic ranking and are headed for college in record numbers, Susan McGee Bailey, executive director of the Wellesley Centers for Women, points out that at the college and university level, there is still a gender imbalance in fields like computer science, engineering, and physics, fields which have traditionally been dominated by men. Once out in the working world, that gender gap persists, with fewer women in high positions in business, politics, and technology. |
