4H focuses on after school programs
The Hillsboro Argus Beth Miller, senior research advisor to the National Institute on Out-of-School Time at the Wellesley Centers for Women, asserts that children without adult afterschool supervision more often experiment with drugs and alcohol. They also “have high levels of stress and anger, experience more depression and behavior problems, and perform less well academically,” Miller says. In response, Oregon State University’s 4H Youth Program has appointed a statewide afterschool care coordinator. |
