While many agree that putting more women in power, including the presidency, is now a crucial goal, one must recognize that we face challenges in the world today that we wouldn’t have dealt with a few years ago. Issues such as fighting wars, dealing with terrorism, and public protection are often seen as man’s work. The problem is that leadership is conceived as masculine; research shows in the abstract that people still link “leader” with “male,” states Sumru Erkut of the Wellesley Centers for Women. |
