Giving Birth to a Better Brain: Do babies sharpen parents’ minds?
Boston Globe New research shows mothers (and involved fathers) are more perceptive, efficient, and competitive. The old myths of the “placenta brain” and “maternal amnesia” may just be self-full filling prophecies. Sumru Erkut, associate director of the Wellesley Centers for Women, thinks that increased learning, performance, and efficiency brought on by motherhood would extend to the workplace. In her study of women and leadership, Erkut said of her interviewees, “They cited their use of traditional mothering techniques such as empathy and understanding to manage employees.” Read more |
