An early morning boost for after school

Mayor Fahey of Omaha, Nebraska announced his aim to increase awareness of current efforts to improve after-school programs in several countries. Since his election in 2001, Fahey has worked to establish high-quality programs in local schools. Around 900 students were registered for programs run by Omaha Public Schools. Ellen Gannet, director of the Wellesley Center for Women’s National Institute on Out-of-School Time says that the number of students participating in such programs is an indicator of their success. She cites the increase in student participants in Omaha as impressive, saying they have surpassed many other major cities. Read article.
