Bullying 101: What It Is, Why It Happens & Why You Should Care

School anti-bullying programs are being re-evaluated in light of recent deaths associated with bullying. Nan Stein, senior research scientist at the Wellesley Centers for Women, points out that “Zero Tolerance [programs] set an antagonistic framework towards children.” In Stein’s opinion, anti-bullying programs’ best chance at success is to address the underlying reasons for bullying, and use proper terms for the behavior, rather than labeling all forms of harrassment and abuse 'bullying.'
