Open Circle Training ProgramCore Program for Grade-Level Teachers
Date: beginning July 16, 2008
Open Circle, the social-emotional learning program at the Wellesley Centers for Women, will offer comprehensive training programs in social and emotional learning for elementary school staff beginning on July 16 for the 2008-2009 academic season, and continuing through the school year. This year-long program trains grade-level teachers to implement Open Circle in their classrooms. Participants learn to facilitate Open Circle meetings, to teach social and emotional skills using the Open Circle Curriculum and to integrate Open Circle approaches throughout the school day. They also have opportunities to share experiences with other teachers who are implementing Open Circle in their classrooms. Research has shown that Open Circle increases elementary-grade students’ social skills, decreases violence and other problem behaviors, and supports an easier transition to middle school.
