Lunchtime Seminar: Social and Emotional Learning in Urban Schools

Wellesley, MA- All schools can benefit from a focus on social and emotional learning (SEL)—helping students develop their ability to communicate, manage emotions, and solve “people problems” in order to work together and build strong relationships. What approaches to SEL work particularly well in urban schools, with the particular strengths and challenges that many urban schools encounter? This lunchtime seminar will offer key ideas drawn from the current collaboration between the Open Circle Social Competency Program at the Wellesley Centers for Women and Project Aspire, an SEL initiative housed at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, that supports teachers, administrators, and other staff in three Boston public schools.   

Lunchtime Seminar Series programs are free and open to the public. Held Thursdays from 12:30 to 1:30 in the Cheever House Library, the seminars highlight the work of Wellesley Centers for Women researchers and program staff. For more information, call 781.283.2500 or visit www.wcwonline.org.
