According to research conducted by the National Institute on Out-of-School Time (NIOST), students who participate in extra-curricular activities are half as likely to use drugs as those who do not. In Idaho, Buhl High School administers random drug tests to motivate students to stay clean if they want to participate in such activities. However, many think that this policy humiliates students and discourages them from getting involved, leaving them with too much free time for risky behavior.
