2008 APA Annual Convention
Date: August 14-17, 2008
Presenters: Dorothy Espelage, Jody Lieske, Milissa Holt, and Nan Stein
Location: Boston, MA
Presentation:"Putting 'Peer' Back into School-based Bullying/Victimization Prevention Efforts"
Nan Stein will serve as discussant in this symposium at the American Psychological Association (APA) in which the panelists will argue that current bullying prevention programs are not effective due to ignoring that aggression is adaptive and to ignoring the importance of peer-based prevention efforts. Presenters will demonstrate the powerful roles that peers play in fostering and maintaining bullying across the middle schools years, and through their work will demonstrate the importance to adopt a different framework to put "peers" back into the way in which school-based bullying and victimization prevention efforts are developed.
