Author: Rosalind C. Barnett Research on work/family issues is currently being done by investigators from a variety of disciplines including Psychology, Occupational Health, Sociology, and less centrally, Organizational Behavior. Such energy and diversity should be expected to yield significant advances; however, for the most part, this promise has not been realized. This report posits that progress has been hampered by the lack of an inclusive model for understanding the processes by which work and family variables influence one another, a model that is theoretically grounded and integrates the major paradigms from these various disciplines. The aim of this review is to lay the groundwork for the development of such a model. |
