This publication uses sophisticated graphics and statistical modeling to examine the availability of child care to low-income families. Using census and child care data from specific communities, the authors find that the supply of full-day center care and family day care is significantly lower in poor neighborhoods. Policy makers, child care providers, and community organizers will find this an invaluable addition to the current debates about the role of child care in employment and welfare.
