Dating violence, harassment a problem for Wellesley schools

Nan Stein, Ed.D., senior research scientist at the Wellesley Centers for Women, said to The Wellesley Townsman that dating violence and sexual harassment need to be addressed in middle school, and that “what [the schools] need to do is start talking about [sexual harassment and dating violence] in a more deliberate way without euphemisms.” Wellesley public schools are addressing sexual harassment and dating violence in their curriculum, but recent data shows that these incidents still occur. More than one in ten Wellesley high school females reported that they had been forced to perform sex acts other than intercourse, according to figures released in the Metrowest Adolescent Health Survey in September.
