School response to bullying backed

A recent bullying incident at Fitzgerald Elementary School in Waltham, MA has caused parents, students, and local officials to question the school administrators' ability to respond to such problems. The school uses the Open Circle curriculum, which provides the students with a forum for reporting and discussing issues such as bullying. Administrators were made aware of the extent of the recent bullying through student discussions during Open Circle time, and as a result decided to suspend the bully indefinitely. In a report about the recent incidents, Superintendent Peter Azar has concluded that administrators acted appropriately.
